Continuing with our awareness-raising, Culture Beat programmes on ‘Violence Against Women’ we present readings from Suvarnarekha, published by The Poetry Society of India. Writes Dr. Sahu in the preface: ‘Today, the Indian women poets are articulating the feminine sensibility while genuinely revealing women’s marginalization; they have created a milieu for divulging and affirming their individuality.’

Dr. Sahu is a major voice in contemporary Indian English poetry. She was awarded the Shiksha Ratna Puraskar and has to her credit the Bouddha Creative Writers’ Prize. Her published volumes of poetry include The Other Voice, The Silence, Silver Poems on My Lips, Sukamaa and Other Poems. Presently, she is Associate Professor of English at Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi. Cappuccino Poets, co-ordinated by Anjali Purohit, artist and writer, is a Mumbai-based initiative that holds readings at cafes.

The programme will include readings by several Mumbai-based poets from the anthology followed by discussion.
